P-40E in Japanese Markings
Study this piece in greater detail:
Counter
This brightly-colored aircraft was originally part of a shipment of crated P-40s that broke through
the Japanese blockade of the Philippines in 1942.  Painted by her American crew to emulate the
Chinese 'Flying Tigers,' she was not long after captured by advancing Japanese Army forces.

Evidently her new crew appreciated the paintwork of the Americans, as they retained the tiger
scheme throughout the aircraft's evaluation by the Army and, as shown here, by the Navy.
