A6M5 Zeros: Iwo Jima
Study this piece in greater detail:
Forced to guess the target of the next American offensive in the Pacific, by 1944 Japanese
strategists constantly shuffled resources around various island strongholds.
Here, A6M5 Zeros of the Navy's 261st Kokutai (NAG), based originally on Iwo Jima, line up for
departure to their next posting: Saipan, and eventual destruction.
Both of the aircraft depicted here were later captured and evaluated by Allied forces, and now
reside in museums: "61-126" being the only original flyable Zero in existence.
