B5N2 "Kate," Sakhalin Invasion
Study this piece in greater detail:
In august 1945, after the Allied bombing of Hiroshima, the Soviet Union opted not to renew
their non-aggression past with the Japanese government and invaded Manchuria and the
Kurile Islands in full force.
Here, on August 15, 1945, the last few Japanese bombers on hand from Sakhalin (a single
B5N2 and two "Jill" bombers) execute a night strike on Russian shipping.
The specific aircraft depicted here is currently on display in an unrestored state by the
Wings Museum in Surrey, UK.
