"Be Forever Yamato" by Ron Cole
The great battleship 'Yamato' (translated loosely as "the Japanese people") was arguably the most powerful single machine
of warfare ever constructed by mankind. She was by far the largest battleship ever built, and while more recent vessels relied
upon advanced technology (like radar-controlled-gunfire) for their strength - no warship has ever matched the huge 18-inch
guns of 'Yamato,' which could hurl a high-explosive projectile the weight of an automobile for over 20 miles. Her beauty, with
attention to her stream-lined appearance and raked funnel, has arguably never been surpassed.

This series depicts 'Yamato' as she would have appeared on the eve of her final one-way sortie in 1945 - when she departed
for the American fleet off Okinawa in an intentional 'suicide' mission - where she met her end in a terrific explosion that took
the lives of almost her entire 2000-man crew. Popular belief in Japan, even today, is that upon 'Yamato's' capsizing (after
taking 20+ torpedos) her shell magazine detonated; thus 'Yamato' committed 'sepuku' - or traditional Japanese suicide.
